Traveling between her disparate homes in Bali, Indonesia and Austin, Texas, Déjà draws upon her mixed heritage finding inspiration to tell both narrative and documentary stories which often inform one another.
Déjà received her BFA from Maharishi International University in Filmmaking and her MFA in Directing from the University of Texas, Radio-Television-Film in Austin. Her films have screened in over 30 film festivals globally and raised awareness for issues close to Déjà’s heart. The Midwife’s Husband(2012), Déjà’s pre-thesis, graduate, narrative film, was nominated for a Student Academy Award. Her graduate thesis, a pilot; Returning to Ananda(2014) won at the Chicago International Film and Television Awards(2014). Déjà is a Hawaii International Film Festival Creative Lab Writer’s Accelerator alum and a a Blacklist/Women in Film Screenwriting Lab 2018 alum.
She’s taught as a visiting lecturer at her alma mater; Maharishi International University in the David Lynch Graduate Film School and will be leading screenwriting retreats in her hometown of Ubud in the near future. Déjà spends most days writing and continuing to learn. She believes everyone has an important story to tell and loves to help inspire others to find their voice just as she has been inspired by her own teachers and her own life experience.
